Trent Reznor leads the industrial rock band as their main producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. Founded in 1988, NIN has sold over 20 million albums worldwide. They first earned a reputation in 1989 with their debut album, Pretty Hate Machine, which stayed on the Billboard charts for more than two years with the hit “Head Like a Hole.” Reznor released the EP Broken in 1992, which earned him his first Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the song "Wish."

The Downward Spiral album, released in the spring of 1994, traced the singer’s life from his underground songs to his pop mainstream songs, and proved to be his major breakthrough in terms of popularity. NIN won another Grammy in 1996 for Best Metal Performance for his song “Happiness in Slavery.”
